IAVF(arteriovenous fistula) is a permanent vascular conduit which can be used
for
a long time.
Usually, the artery would flow through the capillary, in which the blood
would exchange substances with the tissues, then it would converge in the vein,
then flows back to the heart, forming a artificial blood circuit. In other
words, the blood would not flow through the capillaries again; it flows straight
back to the heart through the vein.
Internal fistula has a high blood volume like artery, and can also be easily
pierced like vein. After the surgery, the walls of the vein would gradually
thicken. Only if the patients can take care of the fistula and secure its
smoothness can the process be done successfully.Creatinine 12.21: Is It Good to Make Fistula Now
Here is some advice on how to protect the internal fistula:
1.Patients should keep the skin clean, which is the first step to prevent the
infections. Showering or swimming should be done one day before dialysis. If
there are redness, swelling, pain and secretion around the fistula, patients are
suspected with infections and they should go to doctors immediately.Informations about Fistula Surgery for Dialysis Patients
2. During dialysis, patients should lie down in a comfortable position.
Patients should not bend their arms in which the fistula is located too much,
which could make puncture needles pierce the blood vessels, causing subcutaneous
bleeding.
3.After the needles are pulled out, the best way to stop bleeding is
punctiform oppression, in which method the thumb and index finger would oppress
the puncture spot for twenty minutes. One point worth mentioning is that a tight
package would cause blocking of the blood circuit and it should be avoided. Can Increasing Dialysis Help Reduce Urea and Creatinine
4. On the day when dialysis is done, patients should not do blood vessel
filling exercise and not lift heavy objects with their arms, in order to avoid
the bleeding of the puncture point.Does Stage 4 Kidney Disease Patients Need to Do Fistula
5. Patients who take antihypertensive should monitor their blood pressure,
which should not be too low. Patients need to observe the throbbing of the
fistula and the vibration of the blood vessels on a regular basis. If they find
anything abnormal, they should get in touch with the doctors in the dialysis
units.
6. On non-dialysis days, they should do moderate blood vessel filling
exercise, and massage their blood vessels softly. What Can I Do When My Dialysis Stops
7. It is forbidden that blood pressure should be measured and the veins
should be pierced on the arm with internal fistula. Patients should not life
heavy objects with the arms and should wear loose clothes.
