Chinese Medicine Mechanism of Action of Chinese Herb Bath - Chinese Herbs for Better Kidney Function
1. The medicine arrives directly at the lesions through main and collateral
channels.
As an external treatment method, medicated bath is mainly on the basis of the
holism concept of Chinese Medicine. It is considered that the organs are the
core of the human body, the main and collateral channels are the connection, and
it is taken as a whole from the organs inside to the four limbs, bones, striae
and pores. Medicated bath acts on the texture of the subcutaneous flesh, and the
medicine runs along the main and cholesterol channels through acupuncture points
and then arrives the organs. It proceeds from the outside to the inside, and
effect the function of promoting blood and qi circulation and regulating yin and
yang so as to treat the disease.
2. Collect the quintessence of the plants by bath.
The medicines used for medicated bath are always aromatic medicine,
activating yang medicine with acrid flavor and medicine that promoting blood
circulation and removing obstruction in channels. These medicines have strong
smell, and the medicine gas is easy to be released after boiling and hot-water
soak. It enters the human body through the texture of the subcutaneous flesh and
play multiple roles of ‘clearing and activating the channels and collaterals,
promoting flow of qi and blood circulation, eliminating stasis and obstacles and
arriving directly at the lesions.’
3. Medicine and bath acts together to sweat and drive out pathogenic
factors.
Sweating method is one of the common treatments for removing pathogenic
factors in Chinese medicine, and is the first of the eight methods. Chinese
medicine has three therapeutic principles for the common ‘edema’ in our
hospital, that is ‘open the door, clean the room, remove the pathogens’. ‘Open
the door’ refers to the sweating method which is one of the three treatments for
edema.
Heating bath itself makes people sweat, and with the help of medicine
efficacy, the pores will be widely open, so the patient sweats more thoroughly.
The pathogenic factors will be driven out along with the sweat. After removing
the pathogens, the body will get right, so we achieve the goal of recuperating
one’s health

Part IV The Modern Mechanism of Action of Chinese Herb Bath
Skin is the largest organ of the human body. Apart from the protecting
function, it also has many other functions like absorbing, permeating, sensing,
secreting, and discharging etc. Medicated bath just takes the advantage of the
physiological function of the skin to treat disease, so the physiological
characteristics of the skin is the premise and basis for medicated bath.
1. Percutaneous absorption theory of Medicated Bath
1 > Enter the cells by permeating through the horny layers and cell
membranes.
2> Macromolecules and water-soluble substances can be absorbed through
sweat pores.
3> Permeate into the derma through interstices of epidermic cells.
2. Hydration theory.
On one hand, the warming effect of hydration makes the pores open, and
promotes the penetration and diffusion of the medicine, which is beneficial to
medicine absorption; On the other hand, the higher the skin humidity, the higher
the hydration degree of cuticles, and the permeating and absorbing abilities
will be stronger. Then the medicine activity and permeability coefficient and
the diffusion coefficient will increase, so it will promote the medicine
absorption. This shows that Chinese medicated bath is actually a combining
therapy of Chinese medicine treatment and modern physiotherapy.
3. Principle of reflection.
Lots of autonomic nerve endings and special sensors spread over the skin.
With the effect of medicated bath, nerve endings become in active state from
idle state, which promotes the regulation of nerves, body fluid and immunization
by reflection and transfusion of the nervous Immunotherapy. At the same time,
it improves the physiological activities and pathological changes of viscera,
tissues and organs and strengthens the immunity and resistance of the human body
so as to achieve the goal of preventing and treating disease.
