Creatinine, as kidney disease patients know, is an index which can judge the
kidney’s function to some extent as GFR. What is creatinine? It is a metabolism
product from muscle which should be discharged out together with urine.
Generally, 20g muscles can produce 1 mg creatinine. And it is filtrated out
through renal glomeruli. Creatinine in serum is called serum creatinine and
creatinine in urine is called urine creatinine, the total amount of which does
not change. In normal condition, the urine creatinine level is higher than that
in serum.
The normal range of serum creatinine is 44-103umol/L. The factors which cause
high serum creatinine are as follows:
Firsltly, creatinine is the metabolin of muscles, which is mainly from food
especially from meat. So after people have a lot of meat, the creatinine may
also increase temporarily.
Secondly, people who had kidney disease before may also have increased serum
creatinine when kidney disease recurs and there is nearly no urine.
Thirdly, people sweat, have a fever or have less water will also lead to the
concentration of blood and the blood volume in kidney will decrease. In this
case, serum creatinine increases.
Fourthly, people who had renal insufficiency before will also have short time
increased serum creatinine if they are emerged to infection, cold, pneumonia,
intestinal tract infection, urinary tract infection, etc.
Fifthly, people who have kidney disease will have increased serum creatinine,
which should be attached importance to. The kidney consists of millions of
kidney units, which is composed of renal tubules and renal glomeruli, and the
functions is to discharge waste or toxins produced in the body such as
creatinine. When the filtration barrier which includes basilar membrane is
damaged, toxins such as creatinine can not pass through it and in this way,
toxins such as creatinine, blood urea nitrogen ( BUN), urea acid will accumulate
into the body, leading to the increased creatinine in the blood.
So in order to decrease creatinine, the treatment should be aimed at reparing
damaged basilar membrane, which is the fundamental way to reducing creatinine.
Micro-Chinese Medicine is the priority for patients to achieve this purpose.
