Hypotension is one of the major complications of dialysis. In clinical
practice, long time and rapid transfusion is the chief cause of dehydration
which give rise to the hypotension. Through clinical observation, we can realize
that hypotension mainly appears in the early and latter stage. The followings
are the causes and manifestations of hypotension in these two different
stages.
Causes: In this stage, due to the first time of undergoing dialysis, changes
in haemodynamics, inadaptation to hypovolemia, older in age, serious illness
condition or allergies, it is easy for patients to have hypotension in the early
stage.
Manifestations: Usually, after dialysis about half an hour to one hour,
hypotension which is accompanied with subjective symptoms will appear. These
subjective symptoms include dimness of vision, cardiopalmus, chest tightness,
dizziness and sweating.
● Latter stage of dialysis.
Causes: because of the great increase of their body weight, when patients
undergo dialysis, retention of water is too serious and speedy ultrafiltration
cause the hypovolemia, which will give rise to hypotension.
Manifestations: the typical symptoms during this stage are nausea and
sweating which is accompanied with cramps. For patients with serious
hypotension, pale face and difficulty in breath will appear among them. Besides,
their blood pressure usually decrease to 10/7kpa or even lower. Apart from
these, some others symptoms such as yawn, awareness of defecation and sore pain
in back may also appear. These are the early response of hypotension.
In order to avoid the occurrence of hypotension, patients who are undergoing
dialysis should control their body weight strictly and eat adequate foods in the
morning the day they undergo dialysis.
