Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) is used to check how well your renal
function is. Scientifically, it estimates how much blood passes through the
glomeruli per minute.
According to the National Kidney Foundation, GFR is normally ranges from 90 -
120 ml/min. If GFR is 120 ml/min, it means that there is 120 ml blood passing
through the kidneys every minute and the blood has been got rid of toxins. GFR
of teenagers may be a little higher over normal level and that of elder people
may be lower than normal level, because GFR declines with age.
Then why does GFR decline?
GFR is an indicator of renal function. The main function of the kidney is to
filter blood to remove toxins, extra water and salt. If kidney units are damaged
by diseases or other kinds of reasons, they will lose the function of
filtering.
For example, there are 100 tasks assigned to 100 people every day. If 10 of
them leave away, the rest 90 people will take over their work. They can
accomplish the tasks. But if 90 of them leave away, the rest 10 people must
undertake 100 tasks. The work is overload, so they can not accomplish it. And
they will be worn out and may fall ill.
Similarly, if the amount of the damaged kidney units is small, then the
healthy kidney units will take over their work. But if most of the kidney units
are damaged, the condition will be serious. The small quantity of the remains
will undertake all of the work. Day by day, these remaining kidney units will be
impaired as well. The quantity and quality of filtering will reduce. That is the
reason for GFR decline.
If GFR is lower than 30ml/min, it indicates that the disease develops into
Stage 4 Chronic Kidney Disease. Patients should adopt the treatment in time,
because the disease develops very fast. The earlier you adopt the treatment, the
better curative effect you will get. Our hospital has used Immunotherapy
Transplantation combined with Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy to treat many
cases of Chronic Kidney Disease.
