How much amount of water should a person with CKD stage 3 drink? As we know,
one of kidney’s functions is to filter extra fluid or water and failed kidney
can not do it. The extra-fluid in the body will lead to legs, ankles feet, face,
and/or hands and lead to edema or swelling. In stage 3, how much water should a
person drink? Should they restrict the amount?
Generally speaking, water should not be restricted for stage 3 chronic kidney
disease patients if kidneys are still filtering your blood normally. Stage 3
chronic kidney disease doesn't warrant a change in how much fluid and water you
drink per day. However, if kidney’s filtration rate decreases, you can consult
your physician and he may suggest restrict how much fluid you can have. If stage 3 chronic kidney disease patients have had edema or swelling, they should
restrict water strictly.
In addition, you can eat less salt or sodium to avoid the retention of water
and sodium. These steps may help slow the rate of CKD and help your edema.
