Disadvantages of Renal Biopsy

Renal biopsy is a diagnostic method for some kinds of kidney diseases which can’t be diagnosed with the symptoms accurately. Some doctors say that it is the best way for diagnosing kidney disease and it has no side effects. But it is a surgical incision of the capsule of the kidney and it must have some influences on the damaged kidneys. As it says that everything has two sides, so patients should think carefully and talk with their doctors in detail. Some symptoms may occur after the renal biopsy and the damaged kidneys may become worse after once more damage.
1. Hematuria(Hematuria and Kidney Disease). In most cases, hematuria occurs after doing the renal biopsy and usually it will disappear in 4-5 days without any treatment. The cause of the appearance of hematuria is the trauma of the kidneys.
2. Backache. After the renal biopsy, some patients feel the pain in the back. Some slightly and some seriously. The pain will disappear in 3-5 days, but it may continue in few patients for their sensible of the biopsy.
3. It may cause infections. The damaged kidneys are easy to get infections and the renal biopsy has a great risk in causing the infection of the kidneys. If the infections occur, the kidneys will be in worse condition on the basic of original renal infection.
4. Low blood pressure(High Blood Pressure and Kidney Disease). With bleeding or the decreased blood volume, the blood pressure may be lower. If the low blood pressure occurs and if it can’t be controlled well, the kidneys will be damaged more seriously.
5. Injury of renal tissues. As the renal biopsy is that the renal biopsy needles enter into the kidneys and take out some glomeruli. It have a trauma and it may cause the injury of renal tissues. The damaged kidney perhaps becomes worse injured with the injury of renal tissues. In some conditions, it may cause the injury of liver, spleen, cholecyst and cause complications.
Except the above side effects of renal biopsy, it may have other side effects to different patients. Therefore, patients should think carefully and if you decide to do the renal biopsy, they should make a good preparation for the biopsy, including the diet, the health condition and so on. Now there are some other methods for diagnosing the kidney disease, such as ECT, MRI and so on.
