Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), Chronic Renal Disease as its another name is a
progressive loss in renal function over a period of months or years, then do you
know how many stages it can be divided into?
The Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) of people is less than 60 ml/min/1.73 m2
for three months with or without renal damage; or people with renal damage,
irrespective of the level of GFR all are regarded as having CKD. According to
this standard, Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) can be divided into five stages.
Stage one: Slightly reduce of renal function. In this stage, kidney is
damaged, and GFR maybe normal or relatively high (≥90 mL/min/1.73 m2). At this
time, kidney damage is defined as the most important diagnostic basis, and the
relative symptom of this stage is the occurrence of high blood pressure.
Stage two: Mild decrease of GFR (60~89 mL/min/1.73 m2) accompanied by renal
damage. In this stage, patients usually have high blood pressure and parathyroid
hormone increase.
Stage three: Moderate decrease of GFR which usually range between 30
mL/min/1.73 m2 to 59 mL/min/1.73 m2. When this stage occurs, patients usually
are accompanied by hypertension and obviously have an increase of parathyroid
hormone. The absorption of calcium and spontaneous albumin decreases. Besides,
renal anemia and left ventricular hypertrophy appears.
Stage four: Severe decreasing of GFR (15~29 mL/min/1.73 m2). The above
symptoms become more prominent and metabolic acidosis occurs. Meanwhile
potassium accumulates in the blood.
Stage five: GFR is lower than 15 mL/min/1.73 m2. Situation that people have
been diagnosed with renal failure or people are receiving treatment of dialysis
also indicate that Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) has developed into the fifth stage. The signs are more
severe than those in stage four, and retention of water and sodium which results
from severe failure of heart occurs. Moreover, all such signs as vomit, pruritus
of skin (patients have no skin disease(Skin Itching and Kidney Disease)), and decrease of appetite appear.
Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a kind of recessive disease and fifth stage is the last and most
serious stage, thus when found some similar signs, you’d better check your
kidney in the related hospital to avoid a poor outcome. Moreover, if any
