Compared with other kidney diseases, Polycystic Kidney Disease is more
special, because it is a genetic kidney disease. Similar with Chronic Kidney
Disease, development of Polycystic Kidney Disease also can be divided into five
stages.
Stage one: Emergence Period. Polycystic Kidney Disease is genetic kidney
disease, so it appears with the born of baby. However, because cyst is very
little, the cyst is not easy to be found. Usually, cysts can not be found before
the age of twenty.
Stage two: Growth Period. Normal, cysts grows fast between the ages of about
thirty and forty. This period is called growth stage medically. Western medical
workers think that there are no treatments during this period and it is
unnecessary for patients with Polycystic Kidney Disease to receive treatment.
Actually, in this stage, Chinese medical workers think patients with Polycystic
Kidney Disease should receive treatment positively, so as to control the
enlargement of cysts.
Stage three: Enlargement Period. Generally speaking, for patients with
Polycystic Kidney Disease, after the age of forty, their cysts will have a
further enlargement. The period before cyst break up and the cyst is bigger than
4 centimeter is called enlargement period. During this period, with the
enlargement of cysts, some complications will emerge, such as backache, high
blood pressure, hematuria(Hematuria and Kidney Disease) and proteinuria(Proteinuria and Kidney Disease). This stage is the key period of
treating Polycystic Kidney Disease through the combination of western medicine
and Chinese medicine. In this stage, by removing the fluid in cysts, cysts can
be shrunk, so as to protect the remaining renal function.
Stage four: Diabrosis Stage. When cysts increase to a degree, with the
exogenous effects such as crash in the location of cysts, cysts will break up.
When cysts break up, patients should go to hospital to receive treatment, so as
to avoid getting infection.
Stage five: Uremia Stage. For patients with Polycystic Kidney Disease in
uremia stage, undergoing dialysis is necessary, so as to help patients live a
normal life.
